Our Plan
CenterMovement.org – The Internet Journal
Through The Internet Journal (soon to be a 501(c)(3) educational and tax-exempt association), CenterMovement.org intends to achieve the following:
- Become the voice of Centrism in the United States
- Put bold, new, non-ideological public policy ideas before the American people
- Articulate citizens’ reformist agenda
- Umpire the debate between left and right and discuss various Centrist alternatives
- Establish an information hub linking visitors to other Centrist sites and reformist organizations
CenterMovement.org – The Grassroots Political and Lobby Organization
It is not enough, however, for us to be merely another source of information. Political establishments, whether centered physically in Washington or gathered ideologically at polarized extremes, have power. In some cases that power is immense. We must create our own political organization if we are going to have any significant effect on public policy.
Phase 2 of our plan is accordingly to create a grassroots and lobby organization to bring the power of the American center to bear on Washington. This organization will be a 501(c)(4), directly advocating for particular policies and possibly for particular candidates as well. Our objectives are as follows:
- Build a powerful grassroots membership
- Establish a lobbying organization located in Washington, D.C., to promote Centrist policies and legislation
- Create political action committee to support centrist candidates
CenterMovement.org’s Governing Philosophy
Both The Internet Journal and The Grassroots Political and Lobby Organization, although distinct entities, will share not only part of their titles but also will similarly model some of the qualities they hope to promote in government and society at large. Each organization will have many democratic characteristics. In each case, votes of the entire membership, once sufficiently established, will be taken to decide or modify the organization’s platform and to choose courses of action for the organization; and the Board of Directors will be composed not only of large financial donors, but also of people who make large contributions in other ways, through work, activism or expertise. We pledge to spend our donors’ contributions and members’ dues wisely.
